The Best Place For A Woman To Carry Her Gun Is…

Need some help here recommending an *on-body* location for a CCW pistol as a starting point for women who want to carry. We can have the on-body versus off-body (i.e. purse holsters ,etc) carry discussion on some other day: What I’m interested in is hearing from women who carry a defensive firearm about where they prefer to carry their gun on their person.

I’d like to know (anonymously) where you carry in order to help people like myself and others who occasionally get asked about these thing. It’d help if we have a starting point when it comes to recommending a carry position for their guns, and your input would really help.

I’ve taught quite a lot of women and I’ve found that appendix and strong-side IWB seem to be the most popular. Pocket holsters are very difficult in most women’s pants. as the pockets are tiny and the pants tighter than in men’s pants.

You need a belly band option. Personally, I love my belly band. It works like an IWB at 4o’clock, but it fits much better under women’s clothing. (So I chose IWB in your poll.)

Regarding the best place for a woman to carry: This really depends on the woman’s body and lifestyle. A short-waisted woman would have trouble carrying anywhere on the waist. There’s just not enough room to draw.

Rebecca, where is the best place for a short waisted, but 5’8″ woman (like me) to carry? I’m new to carrying and am trying to figure out what is comfortable and what I am comfortable with. Don’t have a lot of money to ‘buy & try’, so would really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I personally like the belly band as an on-person carry. It allows you to adjust to wherever you feel most comfortable. I like to carry mine close to my hips but sometimes my outfit wouldn’t cover it so I adjust the band a bit higher.

Y’know what, that option should have been up there. I overlooked it when I made the poll, but it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the comment!

I carry a sig-sauer P238 and my holster of choice is a Betty holster in the waistband

Whatever works for that individual woman. Or person for that matter. Contrary to popular belief, women are not all the same. They carry different guns in different ways.

All women are not all the same, and God bless ’em for that. I was more interested is seeing how the differences in body shape affect a CCW holster choice for women, and from what I’m seeing, it does.

I’m sick and tired of hearing “Here, lil’ lady, just put this .38 in your purse”. Not the .38 isn’t a great gun nor purse carry a viable option: I just think there’s more options out there than we’re aware of, and I want women to tell people what they are.
